This Thursday, Jan. 19th, Brown School senior Amani Miles is hosting a blood drive through the American Red Cross from
8am-1pm in the school auditorium.
This is a very worthwhile cause and a rewarding experience for donors.
Every 2 seconds in America, someone needs a blood transfusion. A single
donation can save up to
3 lives.
This is an especially good opportunity for first-time donors or those
who feel a bit nervous. Just let the Red Cross staff know, and they will
help you - you can bring an iPod, a friend, or a teddy bear if you
like! Blood donation is a simple and very safe
procedure, so there is nothing to worry about.
For a successful donation: Drink at least 16oz. of fluids in advance of
donation, eat a good breakfast, wear something comfortable with sleeves
that can roll up, and bring a list of any medications you are taking.
To learn more about the process of donating, please go to
www.redcrossblood.org > Donation Process.
The more donors Brown School has, the greater Brown's eligibility for scholarship dollars through the
Young Minds Change Lives scholarship program.
Contact: For an appointment or for questions, contact Kathy Wynn, Brown School,
485-8216. Walk-in donors are also welcome.
Required:
Driver's license or blood donor card (may alternately provide 2 other
forms of ID). Must be 17 or over (or 16 with signed parental consent
form), weigh at least 110
lbs., and be generally healthy (those with chronic conditions such as
diabetes, are eligible to donate as long as condition is under control).
Blood cannot be manufactured, only donated. Be someone's hero. Give the gift of life.

Dear Brown School Family Members:
We have been advised by the Mayor's Office and Superintendent Hargens
to expect traffic problems of an historic nature this Monday morning.
With the closure of the Sherman Minton Bridge, traffic patterns into
downtown Louisville and across town on
interstates will be taxed to say the least. Thousands of automobiles
will need to be re-routed to the 2nd Street Bridge and the
Kennedy Bridge. This will create major delays on all avenues
approaching downtown from the north, east, or west. (Only
those individuals using surface streets from the south end of town may
escape this problem). I am advising parents to give themselves lots of
extra time to get their children downtown to school. If you have an
alternate route that avoids interstates, it
may be worth considering. Needless to say, we will be adjusting our
attendance and sign-in procedures as much as allowed. But efforts you
can make to leave home early would be greatly appreciated. And most of
all, please stay safe as we encounter these
possible traffic issues Monday morning.
Tim
